Nein, ich feiere nicht das Charisma, das viel zu viele Popkünstler in ungünstiger Weise ausstrahlen und das sie zu „Stars“ des Unterhaltungsgeschäfts macht. Im Gegenteil, es scheint mir etwas Reaktionäres zu haben, das mit der Einübung eines Verhaltens und mit der Gleichschaltung von Emotionen zu tun hat, wie sie gerade in der jüngsten Geschichte Deutschlands schon viel Unheil bewirkt hat. Es ist nicht der Massenrausch, das Bad in einer wie auch immer gearteten Gemeinsamkeit, eine Gleichgerichtetheit der ästhetischen Meinung und des Geschmacks, wie sie die Werbung sich gerne mit allen Mitteln der Beeinflussung bereitet, sondern es schwebt mir eher die bewusste Aufnahme (nicht der Konsum!), das Erleben von Musik vor, - gerade im Gegensatz zu der Fahrstuhl- und Chartmusik, wie sie uns andauernd umgibt. Ein bisschen, ein kleiner Strahl einer Bewusstheit, eines sich bewusst machens darf da schon sein.
Da ist nicht nur die Überwältigung von Gefühlen, die auch gerne von der Musikindustrie für ihre „Zwecke“ genutzt wird, sondern die Feier der Kreativität, die nicht nur im Subjektiven „Genialen“, sondern auch im Strom der Zeit verankert und zu verstehen ist. Nein, nicht das Elitäre, sondern das Massenhafte ist der Sound der Zeit. Das Ineinander von Verstehen und Erleben, von Rationalem und Irrationalem, das wäre es vielmehr, was ich an der Popmusik schätze.
Die Person und ihr Charisma, gewiss, die "Starqualität", - aber nur durch das, was daraus insgesamt wird! Da ist die Musik an sich, das Image, Auftreten und ein Ausdrucksvermögen. Charisma alleine halte ich für gefährlich und mit einem „Rattenfängermechanismus“ verbunden, der heutzutage etwas einseitig vor allem kommerziellen Interessen dient. David Bowie hat sich einmal darüber lustig gemacht, indem er sich mit Hitler verglich. Da ist vielmehr das Wecken von Verstand, die Feier des Individuums in der Masse, die sich auf keine These und kein finanzielles Interesse festlegen lässt, da ist eine Entfesselung von scheinbar gegensätzlichen Kräften, die auch etwas Anarchisches und Emanzipatorisches haben können. Ich höre dazu Udo Lindenberg „Mach dein Ding!“ singen. Das könnte es schon treffen. Wenn das auf diese Weise zustande Gekommene auch noch anderen gefällt und sie zu einer Suche jenseits des Profites anstiftet: umso besser. Poesie kann sich auf der Höhe der Zeit äußern, kann etwas Ekstatisches haben, das sich entzieht. Dagegen hat mich immer die Massendynamik geschreckt, das neurotische Mitklatschen, die Gleichrichtung der Gefühle, die keine Gedanken mehr zu brauchen scheinen.
